Choosing interior paint colors can be overwhelming!  Here are a few tips to help you narrow down the choices.

  • Consider purchasing a color wheel at your local artist supply or hobby store.  It can give you color ideas and inspire you to put together color combinations you hadn’t considered before.
  • Consider all of the elements (i.e woodwork, fireplace stone/tile/brick, flooring, furnishings) in the room to be painted.  Place your color samples on or near these features and you should immediately see which colors work and which colors don’t.
  • Consider the mood you want to create – if you want peace and tranquility, choose cooler colors such as blues, greens, purples, and grays.  If you want to liven up a room, choose warmer colors like reds, oranges, and yellows.
  • Consider the lighting in your room – color viewed in natural light during daylight changes once a fluorescent or incandescent light is turned on.
  • Consider a color scheme which incorporates a blend of warm colors (reds, oranges, yellows) with cooler colors (blues, purples, greens, grays).
  • Consider selecting a color that is slightly lighter than your choice.  Color intensifies when it’s applied to an entire room and the walls will reflect the color.

Let you creative side flow and have fun with this artistic task!
