Why Paint?

Why Paint?

Because it’s the least expensive way to protect your home’s surfaces!

Paint serves a purpose – it protects the surface to which it is applied. And while providing protection from the elements, moisture, wear and tear, and a myriad of other exposures, it’s nice to have a coating that looks good, too! Paint gives you the opportunity to make a statement about who you are and it lets you communicate and define your style by offering you unlimited color choices.

Proper preparation of the substrate is critical! Without cleaning or sanding the surface, paints won’t properly adhere and stain won’t properly penetrate. A significant part of Shades of Color’s work at every job is properly preparing all the surfaces for application of the primer, paints, caulks, stains and finish materials. In addition, we make sure your interior furnishings and exterior landscaping are properly covered or removed from the work area.

Product Selection

Manufacturers make paints, stains, and finishes for specific purposes. The chemistry of paint is extremely sophisticated with most products being suitable only for certain substrates and conditions. Today’s quality paints have additives to fight dirt, grease, and moisture as well as additives to enhance coverage and adherence to the substrate. Paint additives also reduce the harsh effects of rain and snow, heat and cold, and ultra-violet rays. No paint, however, can be formulated to overcome all problems and environmental exposures.

Shades of Color uses high quality and environmentally compatible paints and stains from reputable local and national suppliers. We have the knowledge and expertise to choose the right product for the job and substrate – that’s part of our job as your painting professional.

Every paint manufacturer has their own palette of standard paint colors. Combine the number of paint manufacturers with the number of colors each one offers and you literally have thousands of standard colors from which to choose. In addition, your local paint store has the capability of matching a custom color which you may have selected from a fabric swatch, a decorative pillow, a photograph, a comforter, a carpet sample, etc.
Not sure whether the color you picked will give you the look you want? We’re here to assist you in color suggestions and selection, and are happy to provide larger on-surface paint samples for your project as part of our service.
